Jon Jones weighed in on his long time rival in Daniel Cormier.
During a trip to Russia, Jon Jones spoke about various topics including his former rival and now the current light heavyweight and heavyweight champion, Daniel Cormier. While both of their bouts happened at 205 lbs, Jones says it would be a much tougher contest if a possible third bout happened at heavyweight.
“I think fighting Daniel Cormier at heavyweight would be a bigger challenge. He’s more comfortable there,” Jones told Alexander Lyutikov. “His body type — that’s the way he wants to be, to be big. I definitely think he will be a tougher fight at heavyweight.
“But I still believe I would win. I believe that I have his number. I know how to beat him.”
Jones weighed in on DC’s next bout against the former WWE champion as well.
“I definitely am excited to see Cormier face Brock Lesnar. I think Daniel Cormier wins that fight because he’s just too fast,” Jones said. “I felt like when I fought him, he was quicker than me… with certain combinations. So I can only imagine he will be a lot quicker than Brock Lesnar.”
The former top pound-for-pound fighter is still under a provisional suspension after testing positive for steroids on his last bout with Cormier. USADA has yet to give an actual sanction and suspension length for his second violation, but Jones has been hinting at a return on social media.
