ANDREW MOLONEY DOMINATES LUIS CONCEPCION, SCORES 10TH-ROUND STOPPAGE

It was a coming out party Down Under.

Unbeaten junior bantamweight Andrew Moloney scored a 10th-round stoppage over former titleholder Luis Concepcion at the Bendigo Stadium in Bendigo, Australia. The official time was 1:58.

Moloney, who is rated No. 9 by The Ring at 115 pounds, was scoring repeatedly with solid right hands in the 10th and the referee had seen enough. With that said, Concepcion, who hadn’t been stopped in almost seven years, didn’t look close to being taken off his feet.

However, there was no doubting who the better man was. The home fighter dominated the action with a layered and skilled performance. From the opening bell, the jab found the target and that shot set up a varied and strong selection of power shots as the rounds progressed.

Concepcion had some success in the seventh and eighth, but Moloney appeared to be pacing the action. That proved to be the case when the 27-year-old boxer-puncher moved through the gears to secure the finish.

Moloney (18-0, 11 knockouts) is currently ranked No. 4 by the WBA and is targeting that organization’s champion, Kal Yafai.

The 32-year-old Concepcion falls to 37-7 (26 KOs).
