UFC heavyweight Mark Godbeer announces retirement

After 17 professional fights, and four inside the UFC Octagon, Mark Godbeer is hanging up his four-ounce gloves for good.

The British behemoth, also a former BAMMA champion and Bellator MMA veteran, made the news official on his Facebook page early Tuesday morning.

This career change comes a little more than a month after Godbeer was forced to withdraw from his scheduled fight against Luis Henrique at UFC Sao Paulo this past weekend. The man known as “The Hands Of” was attempting to revitalize his UFC run in the light heavyweight division after spending the majority of his career at heavyweight.

Prior to his recent injury. Godbeer (13-4) was submitted by Dmitriy Sosnovskiy late in the second round of their matchup at UFC London in March. This setback snapped his two-fight win streak, which included a bizarre DQ victory over Walt Harris at UFC 217.

Godbeer closes out his career with 11 career stoppage wins, nine of which ended via KO.
