Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov will not be traveling to Las Vegas to see his son, Khabib Nurmagomedov, take on Conor McGregor in the main event of UFC 229 on Oct. 6.
The UFC lightweight champion recently appealed to the American president, Donald Trump, viasocial media in an effort to gain clearance to attend the blockbuster bout. However, on Friday morning, RT.com reported that Abdulmanap was not granted a visa for the event.
Nurmagomedov’s management later confirmed the news to MMA Fighting.
According to the article, Nurmagomedov underwent an interview in Istanbul to secure the visa, but reported that he was not successful in his endeavor when speaking to a Russian new agency, TASS.
It is understood that Nurmagomedov was asked to provide further information, but will not be able to do so in time to obtain the U.S. visa.
McGregor has taken shots at Nurmagomedov’s father throughout the build up to the fight, initially calling Abdulmanap a “quivering coward” in an Instagram post from last month.
In a recent interview, Javier Mendez discussed how Nurmagomedov has input when it comes to putting together game plans for his son’s fights.
