Anthony Mundine, 43, is ready to walk away from the sport of boxing, but not before he threatens to expose Jeff Horn as a hype job in their Nov. 30th bout scheduled at Suncorp Stadium.
Mundine (48-8, 28 KOs) has had a history of playing the antagonist, which has worked well for him for the most part, but he tells ESPN that he’s been largely misunderstood and that his utmost confidence has often interpreted as cockiness.
“Some media misquote me, try to make me the villain, and people say I am cocky but I have believed in my ability from day one,” 43-year-old Mundine said.
“But if they (media) want me to be the villain, I can be the villain.”
And while Mundine has been preparing for his farewell outing, Jeff Horn is hoping to work himself back into to title contention, hoping to earn another shot a Terence Crawford who took the title off his hands in dominating fashion. Why Horn would want that fight again is anyone’s guess — maybe he’s just a glutton for punishment — but that bout wasn’t even close and I doubt anybody really thinks he would fare much better in a sequel.
To that end Mundine says Horn will witness his Crawford nightmare continue when they meet inside the ring. Mundine says that Horn, a former school teacher, should brush up on his teaching skills as he teach him a lesson of his own. But after all the wear and tear he’s been through over the years, can he still deliver in his swan song?
