Unsurprisingly, Stephen Thompson is the new #1 contender at welterweight in the latest UFC rankings. Meanwhile, it’s time to welcome Donald Cerrone into the top 15 at 170 lbs.
There weren’t too many changes to the UFC rankings, but they were quite notable. Stephen Thompson’s win over Rory MacDonald solidified himself as the #1 ranked contender at welterweight, while Donald Cerrone’s knockout vs. Patrick Cote got him into the top 15 in the same division. Joanne Calderwood’s superb victory against Valerie Letourneau skyrocketed her well into the top 10.
You can look at the full rankings here.
Pound-for-Pound: No updates
Women’s Strawweight: There were a ton of changes here. Joanne Calderwood vaulted 5 spots from 12th to 7th after knocking out Valerie Letourneau, who fell from 5th to 9th. Taking Letourneau’s former spot is Karolina Kowalkiewicz, while Jessica Andrade is placed at 6th. Paige VanZant slips down a notch to 10th, Jessica Penne goes two spots down to 12th, Randa Markos moves up to 13th, while Jessica Aguilar dips to 14th.
Flyweight: Ali Bagautinov beating an unranked Geane Herrera was good enough to get him to #9, sending Dustin Ortiz down to #10.
Women’s Bantamweight: No updates
Men’s Bantamweight: John Dodson is down from 8th to 9th, therefore leaving John Lineker in sole possession of the #8 spot.
Featherweight: No updates
Lightweight: Evan Dunham goes up to #13, dropping Rashid Magomedov to #14.
Welterweights: As mentioned earlier, Wonderboy is #1, Rory MacDonald is #2 (and will leave this list if he signs elsewhere). Demian Maia is tied for 3rd with Tyron Woodleyafter previously holding 4th. Likewise for Rick Story, who is now tied for 9th with Dong Hyun Kim. Donald Cerrone is now ranked after knocking out Patrick Cote, and he slots in at #14. Thiago Alves drops to 15, and Albert Tumenov drops off the list altogether.
Middleweights: Derek Brunson went up a spot to #10, as the inactive Tim Kennedyslipped further down to #11. Thiago Santos also rounds out the list at #15 after previously holding a tie for #14 with Rafael Natal.
Light Heavyweight: No updates
Heavyweight: Frank Mir rises to #11, while Derrick Lewis drops to #12. I don’t get this. Brock Lesnar is available to rank, by the way.
