Featherweight contenders Ricardo Lamas and Darren Elkins are being given a prime opportunity to stay in the title hunt.

Officials announced Tuesday that Lamas and Elkins will meet in the co-main event of UFC Argentina on Nov. 17 at the Mary Teran de Weiss Stadium in Buenos Aires.

Lamas is currently on the first losing skid of his career after dropping a split decision to Mirsad Bektic in June at UFC 225 and being finished via strikes by Josh Emmett last December at UFC on FOX 26. A one-time featherweight title challenger, Lamas is 9-5 in the UFC and 18-7 overall as a pro.

Prior to suffering a unanimous decision loss to Alexander Volkanovski this past July, Elkins (24-6) had emerged as a dark horse contender at 145 pounds on the strength of six consecutive victories, including finishes of Bektic and Michael Johnson. He is 14-5 in the UFC, competing primarily at featherweight.

UFC Fight Night 140 will be headlined by a welterweight bout between Argentina’s own Santiago Ponzinibbio and Neil Magny.
