Luke Campbell is currently in line to get a shot at the WBC lightweight title, the one currently held by Mikey Garcia, but when he might get a chance to vie for that title is still up in the air.
Garcia has recently been linked to a fight against IBF welterweight titleholder Errol SpenceJr., but Campbell tells Sky Sports he’s not just going to sit around and play the waiting game for Garcia to decide what he wants to do next.
“We’re in the right position, but will continue to do what we do with my career, I’m not going to sit here waiting, I’ll stay active and we will look for other fights in the meantime.
“As soon as Mikey makes a decision as to what is happening, we can make a plan for it, if he vacates or keeps the WBC belt, we can plan from there. The main thing is to stay active.”
If Garcia goes through with the Spence bout it’s expected that the WBC lightweight title will be vacated, which would leave Campbell and Richard Commey as the two highest rated fighters in the WBC rankings. That would seem to be a pretty good fight on paper, albeit a much easier proposition for Campbell than having to face Garcia.
