Ronaldo Souza and Chris Weidman will be going home with a little extra cash in their pocket for their back-and-forth war on Saturday night.
The two middleweight contenders engaged in what was one of the best fights of this year in the co-main event of UFC 230, which took place at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The fight ended via third-round technical knockout in favor of ‘Jacare’, but both men will be taking $50,000 each, as they were awarded Fight of the Night awards.
The news was announced by UFC president Dana White at the post-fight press conference.
Additionally, two other $50,000 bonuses were awarded. Middleweights Israel Adesanya and Jared Cannonier earned Performance of the Night awards.
Adesanya scored an impressive first-round finish over top contender Derrick Brunson in the opening bout of the main card. With the win, the 29-year-old fighter moved to 15-0 as a professional fighter and 4-0 in the UFC. Adesanya has earned three Performance of the Night awards in his four UFC bouts.
Cannonier, who was making his middleweight debut, defeated former WSOF champ David Branchvia second-round technical knockout. Cannonier, 34, is now 11–4 as a professional fighter with his win at UFC 230. He also snapped a two-fight skid.
