Benson Henderson will remain in the Bellator fold.

After fighting out his most recent contract, the former UFC lightweight champion has inked a new multi-fight deal to stay with Bellator MMA. MMA Fighting confirmed the news following an initial report by MMA Junkie.

Henderson, 34, carries a 3-3 record in Bellator since signing with the promotion in 2016 following a lengthy UFC run. However, two of Henderson’s losses — split decisions to Michael Chandler andPatricky Freire — were contested while “Smooth” was competing with a torn ACL. The MMA Lab product has rebounded to win back-to-back fights since undergoing surgery to correct the injury, submitting Roger Huerta and most recently dominating Saad Awad en route to a unanimous decision at Bellator 208.

Henderson (26-8) remains one of the most experienced and well traveled lightweights competing today. Over the course of his 13-year career, the record-tying former UFC champion has defeated a litany of notable names, including Donald Cerrone (x2), Frankie Edgar (x2), Nate Diaz, Gilbert Melendez, Josh Thomson, Jim Miller, Jorge Masvidal, and Rustam Khabilov, among others.
