It’s a busy division.
The matchups just keep coming at 130 pounds, as former division kingpin Takashi Uchiyama is set to rematch Jezreel Corrales on New Year’s Eve. The fight joins Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Nicholas Walters and Orlando Salido vs. Takashi Miura as another excellent super featherweight battle.
Corrales (20-1, 8 KO), then the interim WBA champion, turned the division on its head in April by demolishing “KO Dynamite” in just two rounds. Uchiyama (24-1-1, 20 KO) had scored thirteen knockouts in his previous fourteen wins and was considered a sizable favorite, but had zero answers for “El Invisible’s” awkward styling.
This will be Uchiyama’s first fight without a belt since 2010.
WBA Flyweight Champion Ryoichi Taguchi, who stopped Juan Jose Landaeta on that same April evening, will reportedly make his fifth title defense on the same card.
We’ve got a fun three months ahead of us, guys. The gods have accepted the sacrifice of Canelo’s hand and blessed us with bountiful violence.
