Sijara Eubanks is leaving the world of 125 pounds behind her.
On Wednesday night, MMAFighting confirmed the initial report from ESPN of the former flyweight contender’s intention of moving up to bantamweight.
Eubanks would later take to Twitter to confirm the news herself.
This news come a little over a month removed from Eubanks (4-2) coming in 1.2-pounds over the flyweight limit ahead of her fight against Roxanne Modafferi at UFC 230.
Prior to this, the woman known as “Sarj” was briefly linked to a flyweight title fight against top ranked Valentina Shevchenko. However, after witnessing the backlash from the booking, the UFC instead matched up Shevchenko with Joanna Jedrzejczyk in the co-main event of UFC 231 this Saturday. Eubanks would eventually earn a unanimous decision over Modaferri.
Her most recent failed weight cut is also not the first time fans saw her struggle on the scale. She was previously pulled from initial title shot against Nicco Montaño at The Ultimate Fighter 26 Finale after suffering from kidney failure due to the weight cut.
Eubanks is currently 2-1 as a member of the 135-pound division, with her lone loss coming to fellow UFC fighter Aspen Ladd.
