Former Cage Warriors flyweight champion, Nathan Greyson, will face EFC veteran and fellow promotional newcomer, Cal Ellenor, in his Bellator debut in Newcastle on Feb. 9.
Bellator confirmed the preliminary card bout, which will be contested at bantamweight, to MMA Fighting on Thursday. WhoaTV.com first reported Greyson’s signing earlier the same day.
Greyson (6-2-0) made international headlines when he was axed from Cage Warriors a week out from his first title defense against Blaine O’Driscoll at Cage Warriors 99.
Just days before his withdrawal, in an interview with MMA Fighting’s Eurobash, “Dread” underlined the lack of incentive to make the 125-pound weight class due to the UFC’s reported axing of the division. Cage Warriors president, Graham Boylan, later gave MMA Fighting atimeline of events that led to the champion’s dismissal.
The Titan fighter sent shockwaves through the European scene when he handed fellow flyweight standout, Sam Creasey, the second loss of his career via third-round TKO to become the organization’s first flyweight champion since Neil Seery at Cage Warriors 92: Super Saturday.
Ellenor (7-2-0) is coming off a loss in his EFC interim title fight, suffering a decision defeat at the hands of Luthando Biko. He earned his shot at the title with a first-round submission finish of Faeez Jacobs in his debut with the South African promotion.
All seven of Ellenor’s victories have come by way of stoppage, claiming five of the wins by submission. His only other defeat was suffered under the EFC banner, a split decision loss to Gareth Buirski in his promotional debut.
