Ryan “Blue Chip” Martin, who suffered the first professional loss of his career to Josh Taylor in the opening round of the World Boxing Super Series, has tested positive for exogenous testosterone.

Martin is adamant that he’s innocent.

What a surprise this is
I’m truly not a dirty fighter. Why would I sign up for a VADA if I’m taking any banned substances intentionally.

Martin (22-1, 12 KO) had nothing for Taylor when they met last month, even considering the questionable stoppage, and this issue will almost certainly adversely affect his efforts to rebuild. As has been pointed out elsewhere, this presents a pickle for trainer Abel Sanchez, who was among the loudest critics of Canelo Alvarez during the latter’s own fiasco.

Martin can presumably still request that his B sample be tested, and the WBC has yet to announce any particular sanctions. We’ll keep you appraised as the situation develops.
