After three years out of the Octagon, it looked like Nick Diaz would be returning to the UFC to fight Jorge Masvidal at UFC 235. However UFC president Dana White has now stated that it’s more than likely the fight is not happening.
White was asked about Diaz’s return and the potential fight with Masvidal in March at the UFC 232 post-fight press conference this past weekend.
“I think that’s pretty clear,” White said. “All you’ve got to do is look at [Diaz’s] Instagram. I don’t think it looks like he’s training for a fight.” (Transcription via MMA Fighting)
Since White confirmed that the fight was on, Diaz has since accused the UFC of “lowballing” him and has also hinted a move to Bellator through his posts on social media. One post he uploaded read, “F—k UFC. It’s all about Bellator now at least they pay me. [Bellator president] [Scott Coker] is a G.”
Diaz (26-9, 2 NC) hasn’t fought in the UFC since losing a decision to Anderson Silva at UFC 182 in January 2015, the result was later changed to a no contest after Silva tested positive for two banned substances. The 35-year-old is without a win in the octagon since defeating B.J. Penn by decision in October 2011.
