Ronda Rousey’s full time WWE career may already be close to an end.
According to a report from the Wrestling Observer (subscription required), sources indicate the former UFC champion could wrap up her time as a regular performer in WWE at this year’s WrestleMania on April 7.
Rousey debuted with the WWE one year ago at WrestleMania in 2018. At the time, it was announced that she had signed a multi-year contract, but according to the Observer, the terms were that she would be close to full time for just one year. The expectation is that Rousey will step away in order to start a family with Travis Browne. If so, she remains in good standing with the company, and likely transitions into an occasional role much like Brock Lesnar.
WWE released the following statement to TMZ: “Ronda Rousey is under contract with WWE until April 10, 2021. Whether she wants to start a family is a private matter.” This essentially confirms that should she leave, WWE fan can expect to see Rousey appear from time to time. This would also likely prevent her from taking part in any other non-WWE pro wrestling opportunities.
Rousey is the company’s current Raw Women’s Champion. Though not yet announced, it looks like she will be defending that title against both Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania, potentially in the main event. Should her full-time status be ending, Rousey would clearly drop the title there, though there is also a possibility that she delays her departure just long enough to do one more PPV after WrestleMania.
There is no discussion in the report of Rousey returning to MMA, though of course such a situation should never be ruled out, as her return would certainly be a big money fight.
