One piece of the puzzle has now been solved. Today at the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s hearing, the settlement agreement that Khabib Nurmagomedov submitted was reviewed and accepted in regards to his actions after his UFC 229 win over Conor McGregor. So here’s what punishment Khabib is looking at:

  • A nine-month suspension retroactive to the night of the fight (October 6th, 2018). That can be lowered to six months if Khabib will participate in a public service announcement designed around anti-bullying. It remains to be seen if he’ll actually film and release that as per the commission’s request, but if he does, he would be eligible to return to action in early April.
  • A $500,000 fine. They will take that out of the one million dollars they are currently withholding from Khabib’s UFC 229 purse (it was two million overall – they released half of it in the weeks following the fight).
  • Punishment was also announced for Khabib’s teammates, Abubakar Nurmagomedov and Zubaira Tukhugov. They each received a one-year suspension and a $25,000 dollar fine.

Khabib defeated McGregor by fourth-round submission at UFC 229, then proceeded to jump into the crowd and attack McGregor training partner Dillon Danis after the fight. McGregor remained in the cage, and became involved in a physical altercation with Abubakar and Tukhugov.
