NFL quarterback Derek Carr isn’t the only one who has a bone to pick with some members of sports media.
Speaking to ESPN in a recent interview (h/t Jesse Holland of MMA Mania), Dana White responded to Carr’s suggestion that the UFC should allow athletes and sports journalists to settle their beef inside the Octagon.
@ufc @danawhite hey how do I challenge a couple of these clowns on tv to a fight? I think we should start a business together. Where pro athletes can challenge some of these people to an octagon fight until they give us an answer…. The UFC president admitted that he would like to fight some members of the MMA media but doesn’t think it would be a good idea to start sanctioning fights.
“Hey, there’s some media guys out there I wanna fight too,” White said. “You wouldn’t do it, but I get where he’s coming from. It’s tough. I’ve been in the business for a long time now, it’s tough for these guys to sit back and hear these guys criticize them and rip them apart every day.”
While White didn’t mention any names, it’s well-known that the 49-year-old has had fall-outs and spats with several MMA journalists and analysts over the years, including ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, Sherdog’s Loretta Hunt and former UFC heavyweight turned podcast host and analyst Brendan Schaub.
Fortunately, though, nothing has ever come to blows. At least not yet.
