Amir Khan, who last fought on May 7 in a brutal knockout loss to Canelo Alvarez, has revealed that he won’t fight again until the summer of 2017, and says he expects to only fight five more times.
Khan (31-4, 19 KO) is headed back down to the welterweight division after a one-off stint at a 155-pound catchweight against Alvarez.
“I’ve got about five fights left. I’m going back down to welterweight. I’ll box again in the summer and I want to give the UK fans a fight — it’s been a while since I’ve boxed there, and they deserve one now.”
Right now, Khan’s targets include a long-anticipated grudge match with Kell Brook, and a potential rematch with Danny Garcia. He had surgery on his right hand following the loss to Alvarez. He’ll turn 30 in December, and has long operated under the belief that he’ll retire “early” from the sport, rather than let boxing retire him.
How much do you think Khan will have left when he comes back to the sport, and do you expect he really only fights a few more times?
