Junior welterweight prospect Mario Barrios stayed unbeaten tonight, stopping a game Richard Zamora in the fourth round on tonight’s Showtime broadcast.

Barrios (23-0, 15 KO) outgunned Zamora (19-3, 12 KO) throughout the fight, but the stoppage by referee Ray Corona was a little questionable. Zamora was getting hit, yes, but he was still fighting back and seemed to have his wits about him. More likely than not Barrios was headed toward a stoppage win either way, but the hook was a bit early, though you can always argue it’s better safe than sorry in a sport like this.

“I tip my hat to Zamora, he’s a hell of a warrior. All my respect for him and I wish him nothing but the best in the remainder of his career,” Barrios said after the fight. “He wanted a war, I brought it to him. He’s a hell of a fighter. Total respect to Zamora.”

The hope now for Barrios, 23, is that we see him step up the competition, at least a little bit, in his coming fights for the rest of 2019.

Barrios landed 106 of 282 (38%) of his total punches, including a ridiculous 59% (77 of 130) of his power shots. Zamora landed 27 of 137 (20%) total punches and 14 of 64 (22%) power punches.
