And there was much rejoicing.
After more than a year out of the ring, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will return to action in December against Germany’s Dominik Britsch. Junior’s current promoter, Zanfer, broke the news yesterday afternoon.
Chavez (49-2-1, 32 KO) last fought in July of 2015, taking a decision over Marcos Reyes in his first bout since getting obliterated by Andrzej Fonfara. He came in heavy for that one in traditional fashion, so it’s not terribly surprising that Zanfer’s announcement doesn’t mention the weight class.
Britsch (32-2-1, 11 KO), who was booked to face Gilberto Ramirez earlier this year before “El Zurdo” suffered a hand injury in training, has never weighed in above 167.5 pounds and has spent the vast majority of his career at or near the middleweight limit. He’s not exactly good; he’s got a 2014 loss to 6-3 Soufiene Ouerghi on his record and has beaten zero people of note.
In other words, a standard Junior fight.
Who’s ready for the torrid love affair between Chavez and the WBC to burn once more?
