With an IBF welterweight title shot at stake, fellow prospects Jeff Horn and Rico Mueller went to battle in Australia.
And while both fighters had world level hopes, it was Horn who showed he was a class above. Horn showed stunning footwork, head movement, and a vicious uppercut that rocked Mueller’s head back again and again. To Mueller’s credit, he was game and came to fight. However, Horn’s power, speed, and skill proved too much, and the ref wisely stopped the fight in R9 after Horn blew Mueller threw the ropes.
Horn now clinches the #2 IBF ranking at welterweight. Along with this this win, Horn now has victories over:
- Former world titleholder Randall Bailey
- Euro-level Ahmed El Mousaoui
- Ukrainian domestic Viktor Plotnykov
- Previously undefeated Brazilian Robson Assis
An Australian participant of the 2012 London Olympics, Horn beat Gilbert Choombe to reach the Round of 16 where he was ultimately defeated by Abderrazak Houya. Should Kell Brook relinquish it, Horn will face fellow 2012 Olympian Errol Spence for the IBF welterweight world title.
It was a fantastic performance, and can be seen on YouTube.
