After a year of sitting out with injury, it appears Paige VanZant’s return will be short-lived.
Last year, VanZant broke her arm during the opening round of her flyweight debut against Jessica-Rose Clark. VanZant went on to lose a decision and then had surgery to fix the arm. Unfortunately, that surgery didn’t work and VanZant had to have a second surgery on the arm last summer. The second surgery proved successful and VanZant made a full recovery.
VanZant returned to action this past January for the UFC’s ESPN debut, rebounding from her loss to Clark with an armbar win over Rachael Ostovich. She was later linked to a fight with Poliana Botelho at UFC 236 but was pulled from that fight earlier this week. Now we know why.
On Thursday, VanZant took to Twitter, posting a message revealing that she had broken her arm again. She later posted an image to her Instagram stories showing the damage.
We are not doctors here at MMAFighting but that certainly does appear to be severely broken.
VanZant did not elaborate on whether the break will require surgery but it’s safe to say another extended layoff is in store for “12 Gauge”.
