By Eric Baldwin: #1 WBA Demetrius Andrade (23-0, 16 KOs) will be facing undefeated WBA junior middleweight champion Jack Culcay (22-1, 11 KOs) on November 5 at the MBS Arena in Potsdam, Germany.

Andrade, 28, is going to be going into foreign territory to fight the German based 31-year-old Culcay, and he may need a knockout in order to leave the Arena with Culcay’s title in his possession. It’s still unclear which television network will show the Andrade vs. Culcay fight if any.

Culcay originally came from Equator, and he’s been matched pretty carefully since turning pro in 2008. Culcay fought in the 2008 Olympics before that, but was eliminated in his first fight to Kim Jung Joo by an 11-1 score.

This will be Andrade’s big chance to pick up a title the easy way. It would be a lot tougher for Andrade if he had to fight WBA Super World junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara, IBF champ Jermall Charlo or WBC champion Jermell Charlo. Culcay is vulnerable, and very beatable for Andrade, as long as he uses his size and power to take control over the fight.
Culcay and Andrade faced each other in the past in 2007 at World Amateur Boxing Championships.

Andrade previously held the World Boxing Organization 154lb title from 2013 to 2015. Andrade lost his WBO title after he was stripped by the sanctioning body for failing to defend his title for a year. Andrade was unable to line up an important fight during that time frame. It was unfortunately, because he wanted to defend his belt, but he had a fight slip through his finders, and left him with not enough time to get a fight put together to keep his WBO title.

Andrade fought for the U.S in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China, but was eliminated by Kim Jung-Soo by a very controversial 11-9 decision in the quarterfinals. For the many boxing fans who saw the fight, they felt the results didn’t show the clear winner.

Andrade appeared to beat the South Korean fighter in the eyes of a lot of fans. It’s just too bad that Andrade had to lose out in an attempt to capture a gold medal in that Olympics, because he easily could have won the gold with the way he fought. Andrade would have had a tough time against the eventual gold medalist Bakykt Sarekbayev from Kazakhstan.

Andrade last fought in June in stopping the hard hitting Willie Nelson in the 12th round in a fight televised by Showtime. It was a good performance from Andrade, as he dominated a good fighter.

“I signed my contract to fight Jack Culcay and I’m very excited to get back into the ring on November 5. The WBA was very helpful to assist in making this fight. Now all we’re waiting for is for Culcay’s side to sign his contract. In 2007, I fought Culcay as an amateur, so we have some history in the ring,” said Andrade.“

This should be a good fight for the boxing fans. Andrade is a better pro than he was an amateur. Culcay is going to need to raise his game for him to have a chance of beating Andrade. It’s not likely that he’ll be able to do that.
