A big weekend of action ahead in China

Professional boxing activities are set to continue this coming weekend in the northern Chinese city of Yinchuan, with a host of regional talent looking to showcase their pugilistic skills at the Zhenhaibao Theatre. Four of those aspiring boxers will lace up their gloves in search of WBC domestic glory.

In a battle of the big boys, Zhaoxin Zhang will clash with Zi Yue Lyu for the right to be crowned the WBC cruiserweight champion of China. Lyu will take a natural size advantage and aggressive punching power into the fight whilst Zhang takes more in-ring experience and competitive speed as his advantages into the bout. It is all set up for a scintillating encounter.

Zhang goes into this contest holding a professional boxing record of eight wins, one loss, and one draw. This fight with Lyu will be his first foray into the squared circle in 2020. He is on a three-fight winning streak and will be looking to carry that successful winning momentum into the contest.

For his part, Lyu, the underdog, takes a four and one resume into this much-anticipated domestic matchup with Zhang. Lyu’s most recent fight was back in September of last year when he stopped Montenegrin debutant Milos Micunovic, via a first-round KO win.

The second of the WBC China title contests on the event is a clash for the vacant WBC China featherweight title. A son of Kunming, 25-year old Haiyun Duan, will face off against Shenzhen resident, Yangyang Wang, who at 24-years old will be making his debut up at featherweight in a domestic championship scheduled for eight rounds.

Haiyun brings five victories and one loss as a professional boxer into his matchup, Wang, after a stuttering start to his pro career has two wins and one loss in his last three fights. The long break due to the ongoing global health crisis has forced him to pile on the pounds and will now compete at featherweight for this championship showdown.

To top off what promises to be an exciting night of boxing action, Li Ping Shi will defend her WBC Asian Boxing Council super-flyweight title against her compatriot, Yufei Wu, a former amateur standout who takes on a big challenge in the form of the champion, Shi.

The stage is almost set. The boxers will soon descend on the city of Yinchuan in the pursuit of boxing happiness. Fight clean. Respect your opponent and enjoy the beautiful ride that is the sport of boxing and may the best men and woman win.
