A plethora of grappling giants are set to dock in Newport, Wales on April 4 for the Polaris Absolute Grand Prix and now Bellator fighter and jiu-jitsu ace A.J. Agazarm has added to his name to the bill as he looks to knock multiple weight-class champion Ashley Williams off the top of the lightweight pedestal.

Polaris confirmed the lightweight title fight to MMA Fighting on Wednesday.

A black belt under the Carlos Gracie Jr. and Eduardo de Lima, Agazarm is a celebrated jiu-jitsu practitioner who boasts a nogi world championship and an ADCC silver medal among his many grappling honors.

Training alongside the infamous Diaz brothers, Agazarm transitioned to MMA in 2019, and although he got off to a bad start with a decision loss to fellow debuting professional Jesse Roberts, he has since recorded three straight wins, two of which came by way of submission. He most recently scored a submission win over Adel Altamimi in the third round of their featherweight clash at Bellator 238 in January.

Champion Williams is one of the standout regulars on the Polaris roster. As well as the lightweight title, Williams also boasts the Polaris bantamweight title and the welterweight title in his trophy cabinet. One of the most celebrated grapplers on the European circuit, Williams is a nogi European champion who earned his black belt from Chris Rees and jiu-jitsu legend Braulio Estima.

The Polaris Absolute Grand Prix is set to take place on April 4 at the International Convention Centre in Newport Wales. The promotion is Europe’s longest running large-scale professional grappling promotion. Tickets are still available for the event here.
