Orthodox Adam Diu “Big Daddy” Abdulhamid of General Santos City got a big cut on his right ear to suffer a technical knockout in the 5th round against Orient and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia Pacific welterweight champion Ryota Toroshima last night, August 6 in Tokyo, Japan.

Abdulhamid was already throwing punches against Toroshima since the start of the fight. He was mixing it up with the Japanese champion.

But the 27-year-old Abdulhamid hurt his right ear after a left hook by Toroshima in the 4th round.

At the beginning of the 5th round, Abdulhamid could no longer ease the pain of his ear forcing the referee to stop the fight.

“In the last two rounds the ear became popcorn before they stopped the fight. I told him that it was the last round of the fight but the ear is hurting so bad that’s why I called it to stop the fight,” said manager Dexter Tan of Sanman Boxing Promotions.

Abdulhamid now has 11 loses with 17 wins and nine knockout while Toroshima made it 16 wins, 2 loses, 1 draw and 19 knockouts.

It was Toroshima’s successful second title-defense in the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia Pacific and the third in the OPBF welterweight title.
