DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Kim “Bonecrusher” Actub is now ready to face Joan Ambalong in their battle for the Philippine female bantamweight championship on October 15 at the Robinson’s Place in Iligan City.
Actub, who is also the reigning Women’s International Boxing Association (WIBA) world super bantamweight title holder, has been sparring with male boxers in Iligan City under his trainer Ronaldo Rosales.
Actub (5W-8L-1D, 4 KOs) of Iligan said that she is very excited to fight and that she is now in good condition. But she is not sure on whether she can knockout Ambalong (6W-6L-1D, 3 KOs) from Zamboanga City.
“Parehas din kasi kaming my lakas. Pero I will try my best,” (We have the same strength. But I will try my best),” said Actub.
Actub won the WIBA world super bantamweight crown by stopping Ye Byul Lee via a 3rd round knockout last June 24 in Suncheon, South Korea.
Ambalong, on the other hand, won her previous fight by a UD against Aleth Jimenez in Baliguian last August 28.
It will be the fifth encounter between Actub and Ambalong.
In their initial bout, Actub won by a UD in 2014. But their first rematch ended only in a technical draw.
Ambalong finally beat Actub by a 3rd round technical knockout in their third encounter in 2015 in Iligan. But the following year, Actub bounced back by also stopping Ambalong via a 2nd round technical knockout on December 20, 2016 in Dipolog City.
“This is really a grudge fight between them,” said boxing promoter Raffy Jimenez.
The Actub-Ambalong title fight is just one of the three championships featured in the “Fist of Fury 2” boxing card of promoter Raffy Jimenez of RCJ Promotions. It is presented by Mayor Celso Regencia, Vice Mayor Jemar Vera Cruz and the members of the 16th Sangguniang Panglungsod of Iligan.
The main event is the title fight for the vacant Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) light flyweight between Gerald “The Predator” Paclar (10-4-2, 5KOs) of Iligan and Mike Kinaadman (6-3-2, 4 KOs) f Lugait, Misamis Oriental.
The other championship is the Mindanao Professional Boxing Association (MinProBA) minimumweight title-fight of the undefeated Samuel “Silent Assassin” Salva (10-0, 6 KOs) of Iligan and fellow unbeaten Marco John Rementizo (3-0, 2 KOs) of Valencia City, Bukidnon.
Pitted in the undercard are: Dexter Alimento of Iligan against Rogen Flores of Dipolog (8 rds.-110 lbs.); Ming-Hung Lee of Taiwan vs. Michael Estrada of Zamboanga (6 rds.-135 lbs.); Jovylito Aligarbes of Iligan vs. Jhofel Camocamo of Dipolog (6 rds.-126 lbs.); Jake Amparo of Cagayan de Oro vs. Garen Diagan of Gen. Santos city (6 rds.-105 lbs.).
