Adonis Stevenson offers rematch with Tony Bellew, says he’d travel to UK

Adonis Stevenson has a light heavyweight title defense coming up on May 19 against Badou Jack in Toronto, but the 40-year-old Haitian-Canadian has a name from his past on his mind, too, in the form of Tony Bellew.

Bellew (30-2-1, 20 KO) knocked out David Haye for a second time last Saturday in London, and has said that he’d need an offer for a big fight to return to the ring again, naming Tyson Fury and Andre Ward as potential opponents.

But Stevenson (29-1, 24 KO), who stopped Bellew at 175 back in 2013, is throwing his name into the mix, and says he’d travel to the United Kingdom for a catchweight bout.

“You have to fight again the guy who knocked you out, except me! If I fight Bellew again, I am going to knock him out again. It would be exciting, though. … I would like to fight in the UK. I don’t have a problem with coming there for this fight. I am going to knock him out in the UK. I have lots of UK fans, so I will come and do it again. Eddie Hearn has got our number, so he can negotiate with Al (Haymon).”

This is a fight that could realistically be there for Stevenson whether he beats Jack or not. There’s a built-in story, and a catchweight between 175 and 200 could be doable. But Stevenson says a lot of things and makes a lot of challenges, and most of us have learned to take it with a grain of salt over the years, too.
