Former light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson, who woke from his induced coma on December 22nd, is both speaking and moving his hands and feet, according to fiancee Simone God. He is still being treated in his native Quebec, though doctors were able to close his tracheotomy hole.
Stevenson (29-2-1, 24 KO) saw both his five-year title reign and his eight-year, 17-fight unbeaten streak come to an end on December 1st against unbeaten Oleksandr Gvozdyk, who fought back from a deficit on the scorecards to knock “Superman” out with a combination in the 11th round. There didn’t seem to be anything amiss with Stevenson in the immediate aftermath and there was no foreshadowing moment to suggest he was compromised before the finish, but he was soon rushed to the hospital and placed in an induced coma due to brain damage.
This was one of those situations where everybody did their jobs properly and tragedy happened anyway. I’m just glad he’s recovering.
