If you know the story of Martin Murray, you know that he’s served time in prison. Four sentences, in fact, before he got his life together and made a strong career as a professional boxer.

Now, the 36-year-old British fighter has received his US visa after years of being denied entry into the country.

“It’s only taken over 13 years of me sorting my head out and living life the right way, but I finally got my US visa today after being refused it four times before,” Murray said on Wednesday.

Murray (37-5-1, 17 KO) is in the back end of his career at this point, and he’s not sure he’ll actually get to fight in the United States. The four-time world title challenger is coming off of a loss to Hassan N’dam on Dec. 22.

“It’s not worth thinking about all the boxing opportunities I’ve missed because of not being able to travel there, but I’m a firm believer in everything happens for a reason so who knows what’s still out there for me,” he said. “Even if there isn’t anything, one good thing about it all now is that we can start visiting as a family and can go to support the lads when they’re fighting there again.

“I would just like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who gave me the character references which helped support my application, and all the people in my life who have helped me turn into a better person.”

This is just a nice thing to hear about a guy who worked hard, turned his life around, and made something of himself.
