Unbeaten over his last five UFC fights, Alex Oliveira wants to prove he’s ready for the next level in the company.

Coming off impressive finishes over Ryan LaFlare, Tim Means and Will Brooks, “Cowboy” is set to meet Yancy Medeiros in the preliminary portion of UFC 218 in Detroit on Dec. 2, and can’t wait to step inside the Octagon to brawl.

“The moment I enjoy the most, getting into a brawl with another man, is finally here,” Oliveira told MMA Fighting. “What we’re doing is working, so I haven’t changed anything. We worked on the flaws we saw in his game.”

Oliveira, who also trains at TFT in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, decided to do his entire training camp for UFC 218 at ATS in Tres Rios, and says that he knows exactly how to put an end to Medeiros’s winning streak on Saturday night.

“He keeps his hands low, he doesn’t like to get attacked in the body. My hand is heavy and I’m confident,” he said. “I’ll work on his body. If his hands are heavy and he manages to knock me out, congratulations, but my hands are heavy. That’s the way to go, his belly. If I hit his face, there’s nothing I can do, he will go down sleeping.”

The Brazilian welterweight scored a brutal, second-round, walk-off knockout over LaFlare in his last UFC bout in July, and vows to be ready for Medeiros’ grappling if the Hawaiian decides to avoid a stand-up battle in Detroit.

“He can bring this boring grappling game if he wants, I fight well in those conditions too,” Oliveira said. “I worked hard on my wrestling and jiu-jitsu. MMA is like lottery, anything can happen in a fight. The opening he gives me, I’ll catch him. I can’t make any mistake, but if he thinks he’s going to smother me on the ground, he’s dead wrong.”

Oliveira, currently ranked No. 15 in UFC’s official welterweight rankings, was hoping to face a top-ranked opponent after putting together an impressive winning streak in the UFC, and hopes that Medeiros is the final step before facing someone in the top 15.

“He’s not one of the top guys in the division, but this win puts me in a good position,” Oliveira said. “I will go there and get the job done, and they will give me someone ranked in the welterweight division. Just do your job and wait. I just hope the UFC recognizes it. I’m undefeated in five fights, and I want this opportunity.

“The best fighters are in the UFC, and I’m among them. I will show my qualities. I’m not fighting at home, but I’m cool. It’s just the two of us in there to fight. I hope he’s well trained and ready for a brawl. I want this so bad.”
