Coming off of an ugly knockout loss, it isn’t getting any easier for Aljamain Sterling.
For his next challenge, Sterling has been booked to fight fellow bantamweight grappler Brett Johns at an upcoming Fight Night event on April 21 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. The bout was first reported by Newsday.
Sterling (14-3) has won just two of his past five outings after starting his career with 12 straight wins. Last December at UFC Fresno, he was on the receiving end of a knee to the head from Marlon Moraes that left him out cold on the canvas. It was the first knockout loss of Sterling’s career.
The “Funk Master” recently agreed to fight Rob Font on social media after Font called him out, but it appears that the matchmakers have other plans for Sterling.
The 25-year-old Johns has won all 15 of his professional bouts, most recently dispatching veteran Joe Soto with a sensational calf slicer submission at The Ultimate Fighter 26 Finale. The 30-second finish was the Welshman’s first submission in three Octagon victories.
