All set for “Fight for Peace” in Russia

Russian Alexander Besputin will face Mexican Mauricio Pintor in a welterweight clash on September 11 at the Ivan Yarygin Sports Palace in Krasnoyarsk, Russia.

Besputin, 30, of Kamensk-Uralsky, has an impeccable record of 14 wins with 10 knockouts. In his most recent bout, he defeated Viktor Plotnikov by TKO in 2 rounds.

Pintor, 27, from Mexico City, has a record of 24 wins with 14 knockouts, 3 losses and a draw. In his most recent bout, he defeated Kendo Castañeda by wide decision.

This important fight between two nations with a fabled boxing history, will celebrate the World Boxing Council’s commitment to BoxVal, an integral part of Scholas Occurentes, Pope Francis’ non-religious foundation, which encourages and promotes World Peace, especially amongst young people.

Scholas has designated Besputin vs. Painter as “Fight for Peace”, as a tribute to inclusion and a continuous effort to build bridges and promote peace in the world.

BoxVal (Boxing with Values) is Scholas’s boxing program, which reaches all corners of the world through our sport and is administered by the WBC.

In true sportsmanship, even though both men are from different cultures and have different customs, they pride themselves on representing their countries. Following the WBC brotherhood tradition, both boxers are proud to be members of BoxVal, symbolically planting olive trees.

This Friday both passed the official weigh-in. Besputin was 146.3 pounds, while PIntor weighed 146.1 pounds.
