Amanda Serrano claims Katie Taylor fight is “scheduled” for 2019

It looks like the ‘biggest fight in women’s boxing’ – according to Katie Taylor – is even more inevitable than previously thought.

The eagerly anticipated clash between six-weight world champion Amanda Serrano [35(26)-1(0)-1] and the unified WBA-IBF lightweight title holder looked like it was finally likely when the Puerto Rican signed with Matchroom and DAZN last month.

Now it looks a cert for 2019 as the younger sister of Cindy Serrano, Taylor’s last opponent, claims the bout has been ‘scheduled’ and has been made as part of her three-fight deal with Eddie Hearn.

The when and where of a fight that will throw massive spotlight on the female side of the sport are yet to be confirmed or even rumoured – but, barring surprise defeat for either fighter, it looks certain for late next year.

Amazingly, Serrano will first attempt win a world title at a seventh weight – dropping from light welterweight, where she enjoyed her last world title win, to super fly where she will attempt dethrone WBO champion Raja Amasheh.

The Brooklynite would then look likely to have an outing at lightweight to readjust to the division before going into a massive clash with Taylor [11(5)-0] in what would the third and final fight of Serrano’s Matchroom deal.

Serrano’s fight with German-Jordanian Amasheh [22(4)-1(0)-1] is set to take place early next year while Taylor is likely to feature on the DAZN blockbuster show at Madison Square Garden on December 15th versus a to-be-confirmed foe.

Taylor humbled Serrano’s older sister last month in Boston in one of the most one-sided world title bouts one is ever likely to see.

Amanda was ringside that night and – after previously stressing that she was retired from boxing – would be the main topic of conversation in the aftermath and soon signed a deal with Matchroom and the DAZN platform.

Outlining her plans, Serrano explained how “my team is in talks with the WBO and their 115 pound champ’s team for a January title fight.”

I’ll be dropping from 140 pounds to 115, a six-division drop, to make history again,” Serrano added before suggesting that a potential fight with Taylor is even more locked in than previously believed.

“I’m also scheduled to fight Katie Taylor as part of my three-fight deal with DAZN.”

“2019 is looking great.”
