Amanda Serrano made history last night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, becoming both the first five-division champion in Puerto Rican boxing history, and the first five-division champion in women’s boxing history.

Serrano (32-1-1, 24 KO) dominated the action against Dahiana Santana (35-9, 14 KO), leading to referee Benjy Esteves stopping the fight at 1:14 of the eighth round, with Santana still on her feet.

The win netted Serrano the WBO bantamweight title, as she’s taken a difficult and unique path to her five belts:

1. IBF super featherweight (130 lbs) title, 2011
2. WBO lightweight (135 lbs) title, 2014
3. WBO featherweight (126 lbs) title, 2016
4. WBO super bantamweight (122 lbs) title, 2016
5. WBO bantamweight (118 lbs) title, 2017

“It means everything to me. We worked so hard. We worked hard for this moment,” Serrano said. “To be a five division world champion is amazing. To be the first female and first Puerto Rican is amazing.

“I’m so proud to be a Puerto Rican. I’m so proud to be a Showtime fighter. I’m just so happy for this moment. Just to be a five-division world champion, I could retire today and it’d be the happiest moment of my life. I’m just getting started. I hope I’m back again.”
