Amir Khan: ‘I am a little bit nervous’ about return to boxing

Badlefthook.com

When Amir Khan steps into the ring on April 21 against Phil Lo Greco, he’ll be doing so for the first time in just shy of two years, coming off of a nasty KO defeat against Canelo Alvarez in 2016.

And the veteran Khan admits that he does have some nerves ahead of his return.

“I am a little bit nervous but I know my fitness is right, I’ve trained hard for this. I do feel a lot better than I did at 28. I’m 31 now, I’m at the peak of my career, I know I have a bit left in me to come back. I want to win another world title, that’s what keeps me going.”

Khan (31-4, 19 KO) is returning as a welterweight against Lo Greco (28-3, 15 KO), a decent fighter perhaps best known for his friendship with Paulie Malignaggi, who has lost his step-up bouts in the past.

The two have engaged in a bit of a personal feud ahead of the fight, too, hyping the bout somewhat and putting some more attention on what is a pure tune-up return on paper.

Khan also had this to say about working with trainer Joe Goossen, who has stepped in for Virgil Hunter:

“He keeps you sharp but at the same time those things have become a habit, I’m not making silly mistakes. It’s nice to have someone like him there, he’s experienced, he’s trained some great champions in his day, and I still believe he’s a great trainer, I’m glad to have him here.”

How much does Khan have left in the ring? We’re eight days from at least getting some glimpse of it.
