REIGNING Filipino world champion Jerwin “Pretty Boy” Ancajas is now ready to fight the undefeated Irish challenger Jamie “The Mexican” Conlan to defend his International Boxing Federation (IBF) world super flyweight title on Nov. 18 at the SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom.
“Nakahanda na si Jerwin at gagawin niya ang lahat upang matalo si Conlan sa taas ng ring,” (Jerwin is now ready and he will do everything to beat Conlan on top of the ring) said Ancajas’ manager-trainer Joven Jimenez in a Facebook message.
“Excited din si Jerwin sa laban. Masaya din si Jerwini dahil mababait ang mga Irish,” said Jimenez.
But Jimenez said that Conlan’s team had also prepared well for this fight.
“Magaling at matapang din ang kalaban at naka handa din sila ng husto,” (He’s good and brave and also very much ready), said Jimenez.
The 31-year old Conlan is still unbeaten with 19 straight wins with 11 knockouts.
In his previous fight, Conlan survived a knockdown in the 8th round to win by a split decision against Yader Cardoza to win the vacant WBC International Silver super flyweight title last March 10 at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast.
Conlan also suffered a cut above the left eye in the 10th round.
Ancajas, on the other hand, is making his third title-defense. He previously retained it via a7th round technical knockout win against Teiru Kinoshita last July 2 at the Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane, Australia in the main supporting bout of the Manny Pacquiao-Jeff Horn championship.
Ancajas, a native of Panabo City first successfully defended it by stopping Mexican Jose Alfredo Rodriguez due to a shoulder injury in the 7th round also last January 29 at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort in Macao.
Ancajas captured the IBF world title by dethroning McJoe Arroyo of Puerto Rico via a convincing unanimous decision at the Jurado Hall of the Philippine Navy Camp in Taguig City last year. The 25-year old Ancajas downed Arroyo once in Round 8. (LITO DELOS REYES)
