Angela Magana believes her UFC 218 fight was waved off prematurely, because she is a woman.

Magana dropped to a five-fight losing skid when Amanda Cooper stopped her with strikes in the second round. Cooper dominated Magana, an alum of The Ultimate Fighter 20, for the entire duration of the fight, especially on the mat. Cooper had Magana’s back and was landing ground-and-pound when the referee stepped in.

But Magana doesn’t think the stoppage was warranted.

In a series of tweets on Sunday, the strawweight explained that if she was a man, the referee would have let her survive until the end of the round, which was 26 seconds away when Cooper was awarded the win.

“I need to walk in the cage with a banana in my shorts and a crew cut then maybe the ref will let the fight go. Men can f—king tap out from strikes get hit and the ref wont stop it till 7 shots later after near death expierence (sp) #equalrightsinfights #letthegirlstakebeatingstoo,” Magana wrote, referring to a UFC 218 bout between Paul Felder and Charles Oliveira in which Oliveira tapped, which was missed by the referee.

Magana’s plan, she said, was to wait for the remaining half a minute or so. However, if you watch the fight, it’s hard to argue she was intelligently defending herself. She said she wasn’t hurt and immediately complained about the stoppage to the referee afterwards.

“Amanda was f—king bashing me & overpowering me, I wasnt rocked still moving was completely aware I immediately sat back & bitched at ref,” she wrote. “Heard my corner yell out I had less than 30 seconds. I was thugging it out hoping for a 3rd & have a chance back on my feet again.

“In no way by wanting another round am I taking anything from Amanda, in fact her dominance of me could have been far worst I just wanted that opportunity to let that transpire and have another go.”

Cooper vs. Magana served as the card’s featured UFC Fight Pass early preliminary bout at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit on Saturday night.

UFC 218 was headlined by a featherweight title fight between champion Max Holloway andJose Aldo. Holloway stopped Aldo in the third round for the second time to retain his title.
