The World Boxing Association (WBA) regrets the passing of Aníbal Miramontes, a great boxing man who gave a lot to the sport and who accompanied the pioneering organization for several years leaving a great legacy.

He was currently a member of the IBF and was one of its fundamental pillars. But he was also a member of the WBA family and was responsible for great projects that remain today.

Miramontes fulfilled several roles with the WBA but undoubtedly one of the most outstanding was the creation of the North American Boxing Association (NABA). The NABA was created to propel the continent’s prospects to the world level and help them develop.

The Argentinean was in charge of the first New Jersey office. Anibal did an excellent job as president while in charge of this project and managed more than 40 NABA title fights, which made him the great architect of making NABA known.

He was also a member of the WBA Championships Committee between 2000 and 2002, was a judge in several bouts, and helped the organization in its growth for several years.

The WBA family mourns the farewell of one of its members and wishes peace and resignation to his family and friends.
