Another ‘Tito’ in Las Vegas

For almost a decade, Felix ‘Tito’ Trinidad thrilled boxing fans under the bright lights of Las Vegas, a town where he accomplished significant triumphs over names such as Oscar de la Hoya, Fernando Vargas, David Reid, Héctor ‘Macho’ Camacho and Luis Ramón ‘Yory Boy’ Campas. And from this Saturday on there will be another Puerto Rican ‘Tito’ from Barrio Obrero in San Juan; Angel Acosta, will seek to settle in this great boxing mecca when he makes his debut in the ‘city of sin’ against dangerous Aztec Abraham Rodriguez during Golden Boy Fight Night at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino and on ‘Facebook Watch’ through the pages of Golden Boy Promotions and Miguel Cotto Promotions.

Acosta (18-1 with 18 KOs) will make the second title defense of his mini flyweight crown of the World Boxing Organization (WBO) against Rodriguez (23-1 with 11 KOs) after knocking out in Puerto Rico the Nicaraguan Carlos Buitrago on last June.

“For a while, ‘Tito’ Trinidad made a lot of noise here in Las Vegas. This will be my first here and I want to follow in his footsteps. I would like to continue fighting in this city because this is where great champions fight and great fights take place. I want to leave my mark here and that starts on Saturday,” said Acosta, who has achieved all his victories by KO.

However, against Rodriguez, Tito will have a rival who can endure a lot of punishment and whose only knockout loss was due to a headbutt and not a blow.

“He’s a guy who adjusts well and comes well motivated because it’s his first fight outside of Mexico and his first world title. But you have to see how it goes with me because I’m going to put more pressure on him than his other rivals and I’m going to make him feel my punch,” Acosta said.

“Also, I have a little advantage in the fact that I’ve already fought a lot outside of Puerto Rico. I have fought in Atlantic City, in Kissimmee, in San Antonio, in Japan, and in New York, among other places. We come now to conquer Las Vegas!”
