UNBEATEN Anthony Cacace has promised fireworks when he aims to become British and Commonwealth super-featherweight champion on the undercard of the barnstorming Chris Eubank-Arthur Abraham clash on July 15 in London.

Ulsterman Cacace heads into the ring against British champion Martin Ward at The SSE Arena, Wembley, with a flawless record – and the opportunity to make a big impression on the ITV Box Office show, promoted by Poxon Sports, in association with Team Sauerland.

Cacace, who boasts a 15-0 perfect record as a pro, has also benefitted earlier this year from sharing the ring with one of the very best, as he sparred extensively with former world champion Anthony Crolla.

The 28-year-old Northern Irishman said, “Anthony was a brilliant person, both in and out of the ring. The technical side of things he is very, very good at, but outside the ring, he looks after himself and leaves no stone unturned. He trains hard, eats well, recovers well, sleeps well, he does everything you need to do to be a champion. Anthony was an absolute gentleman and if I can use some of the stuff he passed on to me, then Ward is in a whole world of trouble.

“Ward is a terrific fighter. Like me he is unbeaten and he will come into the ring really fancying his chances. I’ve got to show that all the hype about me is true and my game plan is to not only beat him, but to stop him and to show everyone watching on ITV that I’m a new star of the sport. I don’t want to sound too cocky, because I’m not that type of person, but I’m very confident of my ability and I know at my best – and I will be at my best – I can halt Martin Ward.”

Cacace, nicknamed ‘The Apache,’ admits he has endured a frustrating period in his career, but is now more than ready to make up for lost time.

“I’ve fought twice in two years due to a variety of reasons, but this is the biggest fight of my career by a long margin and I’m not going to let it go. I am a firm believer that you have to take your chances when they come along and this is the big one for me. I am fighting for the British and commonwealth title against a high-class fighter on a massive bill at Wembley – it doesn’t get any better than that.

“Ward and I are going to have a real dust-up and the fans are in for a treat, whether they are watching from their armchairs, in the front row, or in the back of the arena. It will be a brilliant night of boxing because on top of my fight with Ward there is Eubank versus Abraham, a cracking match-up which all boxing fans will want to watch.”

Ward, who won the British title last year by halting Andy Townend, has won 15 and drawn two of his 17 pro bouts and will be a stern test for Cacace, who enjoyed a glittering amateur career before moving into the paid ranks.

Cacace said, “I’ll train over in Belfast until the week before the fight and come over the night before the weigh-in for what promises to be an unbelievable night of boxing on ITV Box Office.

“Ward’s record is a very good one which means he is a very good boxer. I don’t really even need to read his record to know that. He is a skilful fighter who knows his way around a ring and he will be coming to win, same as me. I won’t under-estimate him, I’ve never done that with my opponents. I will train for the very best version of Martin Ward, who I respect as a fighter.”
