Anthony Dirrell vs. Denis Douglin scheduled for Nov. 17

Dirrell will be making a return to his hometown of Flint, Michigan.

Anthony Dirrell will be having a homecoming next month as he’s just been scheduled to take on Denis Douglin in Flint, Michigan in a Premier Boxing Champions main event on November 17. The fight is scheduled for 10 rounds and will be held at the Dort Federal Credit Union Center, airing on FS1 starting at 10:30pm ET, as reported by ESPN.

Dirrell (30-1-1, 24 KOs) has been out of action since scoring a stoppage win over Norbert Nemesapati in January, but has won three straight fights since losing the WBC super middleweight title to Badou Jack in early 2015. Speaking about his opponent, Douglin (20-5, 13 KOs), Dirrell says:

“Douglin has fought a lot of good fighters and I respect him, but he’s standing in the way of my title shot,” Dirrell said. “This is a chance for me to showcase my skills. I’m going for a stoppage, and I think I’m going to get it in the middle rounds. I want to put on a great performance and give the fans something to see. I’m going to get the job done.”

Douglin is most recently coming off a stoppage loss to David Benavidez over a full year ago and has been stopped four times in his career. Of course he’s mostly being brought in to lose, but he’ll be looking to upset those plans.

“I’ve taken a lot of fights on short notice and that’s hurt me in the past, but I’ve had ample time and a great training camp to prepare for this fight,” Douglin said. “I think Dirrell has a problem with guys who aren’t afraid of him and who will actually give him a fight. With my style and determination, I’m going to bring a lot more than he’s expecting. I’m going to bring it for 10 rounds, and I know I’ll have my arm raised at the end of the day.”

In the co-feature welterweights Jamontay Clark (12-0, 7 KOs) and Ivan Golub (13-1, 11 KOs) will go head-to-head in a rematch of their controversial June fight in a scheduled 8-rounder. Their summer fight had Clark winning by unanimous decision, with one card in particular thought to be wider than warranted.

And finally, the opening bout of the PBC telecast will feature junior welterweight Ryan Karl (14-1, 9 KOs) taking on Kareem Martin (9-1-1, 3 KOs) in another scheduled 8-rounder. ‘Cowboy’ Karl is coming off a decision win over Carlos Winston Velasquez in July while Martin is coming off a decision win over Evincii Dixon in August.
