An intriguing middleweight matchup is in the works for UFC Sao Paulo.

Antonio Carlos Junior and Elias Theordorou have verbally agreed to a bout on the Sept. 22 event in Brazil. MMA Fighting’s Guilherme Cruz confirmed an initial report by Combate.

The 28-year old Carlos Junior (13-1, 1 no-contest) has quietly put together one of the hottest runs in the UFC’s 185-pound weight class. The Rio native and American Top Team competitor has won five consecutive bouts, four of which have come via submission. His most recent victory was a first-round rear-naked choke submission of Tim Boetsch at UFC on FOX 29 in Glendale, Ariz.

Theodorou (15-2), meanwhile, is putting together a nice run of his own. The former “TUF: Nations” winner out of Toronto has won two straight fights, and four out of his past five, with the most recent victory being a unanimous decision over Trevor Smith at UFC Liverpool on May 27.

While several fights have been reported for the UFC Sao Paulo card, including Evan Dunham vs. Francisco Trinaldo, and Mark Godbeer vs. Luis Henrique, the UFC has yet to formally announce a main event for the card.
