Orthodox Pete “Thunder” Apolinar of San Pablo, Laguna knocked out Jhunriel Ramonal of Binan City in the 10th round to win the vacant Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) super bantamweight title last Saturday, April 2 at the Flash Grand Ballroom in Elorde Sports Complex in Parañaque City.
The 26-year-old Apolinar hit Ramonal with an uppercut then followed with a vicious left hook that finished Ramonal in the 1:47.
“Upper cut tapos finishing hook po, tapos di na po naka tayo si Ramonal,” said Apolinar of the Omega Boxing Gym.
“Actually it’s my first time to play in a super bantamweight. It’s okay for me to lose weight and make some adjustments,” said Apolinar.
Apolinar said that so far with his performance, his team is happy, especially his manager and coach.
Apolinar now has 16 wins, two defeats and 10 knockouts while 32-year-old Ramonal suffered his 10th loss against 17 wins and six draws.
It was an impressive performance for Apolinar in his return to the super bantamweight from the featherweight division.
Apolinar earlier lost to Korean Jong Seon Kang by an 8th round technical knockout for the WBO Oriental featherweight title last November 6, 2021 in Daejeon, Korea.
