Undefeated Dave “Dobermann” Apolinario of Maasim, Sarangani Province is the new International Boxing Organization World flyweight champion after he scored a 1st round knockout against Gideon Buthelezi of South Africa for the vacant title last July 29 in East London, South Africa.
Apolinario landed a solid left punch followed by a right to knockdown Buthelezi in the opening round.
Buthelezi tried to stand up but was too late already as the referee completed the count.
Apolinario cried for victory and laid on the floor.
He was joined by his team manager Jean Claude ” JC” Manangquil, assistant Ramon Falgui and trainer Ronerex Dalut .
The 23-year-old Apolinario is now the only world boxing champion in the Philippines.
“I need to knock him out in order to surely win,” said Apolinario.
He previously retired Mike Kinaadman of Iligan City in the 4th round at the Sanman Gym in General Santos City last February 5, 2022.
The southpaw is still unbeaten with 17 wins and 12 knockouts.
