After 6 years in retirement, Argentina’s former 2-division world champion Sergio “Maravilla” Martínez (51-3-2, 28 KO’s) returns to fight action when he faces 10 years younger Spanish opponent José Miguel Fandiño (15-6, 8 KO’s) who hails from Gijón, Principado de Asturias.
Maravilla’s 10-rounds televised non-title middleweight return unfolds tomorrow, August 21, at El Malecón in Torrelavega, Cantabria, España, supervised by the Federación Española de Boxeo.
The last time the 45-year-old “Maravilla” Martínez climbed the square ring was for his star 160-pound world title battle against now-retired Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto.
The clash ended up being a hot rumble that warrior-heart “Maravilla” lost in 10 chapters at famed New York’s Madison Square Garden. The year was 2014.
Fast-forward 6 years from that tough and hot New York evening and boxing fans find out that Maravilla Martínez’s love and desire for fighting are still intact, and he wants to keep going.
