Arum: Deontay Wilder’s style sucks!

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum takes a few minutes to chat it up with our colleagues at Fight Hub TV about last weekend’s heavyweight action between Deontay Wilder and Luis Ortiz. Check out what he had to say about the fight…

“I thought it was an excellent fight. A really good, exciting heavyweight fight. I thought that Wilder showed that he has dynamite in that right hand. I think his boxing style sucks. I mean, I don’t know he knows the first thing about boxing. I think if he gets in with a guy who can take a punch he’s in trouble. And Ortiz just ran outta gas.

“I don’t care what the judges’ scorecards were, I had Ortiz three points up when the fight was stopped…You know, and I’m really concerned when, I think it was the 7th round when Ortiz beat the hell out of Wilder, you see the extra time they gave Wilder?!…That’s bullshit! You know, that obviously was a big advantage for Wilder.

On if Ortiz’s team are right to publicly complain about that sequence of events:

“Absolutely they’re right to bring it up! You know, I mean, it’s just inexcusable. But, again, we’ll see how it develops.

“I’m optimistic for my guy Joseph Parker, I think he has a good chance to beat [Anthony] Joshua because Parker takes a tremendous punch. I think he’s throwing punches better, so I think he can win a decision over Joshua and I’d put him in in two minutes against Wilder.”

On what he thinks happens if Wilder fights Joshua or Parker:

“I think Joshua knocks him out, and I think Parker wins the decision over Wilder.”

On if he thinks Parker can get a deicision over Joshua in Joshua’s backyard:

“Yeah because we worked very hard with the British Board, there’s a neutral referee, an English judge, a New Zealand judge, and a European judge. So I think we will get a very, very fair decision.”
