Audie Attar: Conor McGregor team focusing solely on legal matters

Before Conor McGregor figures out who he’s fighting next, he wants to settle his battle with the New York legal system first.

The UFC star was in Brooklyn on Thursday to address the charges laid against him and associate Cian Cowley as a result of their violent appearance at the Barclays Center on April 5 and manager Audia Attar spoke to MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani shortly after McGregor’s legal team informed the court that they are working on negotiating a plea deal with the district attorney.

Attar declined to speak on his client’s plans in regards to his fighting career.

“Today we’re here to focus on court, we’re not going to focus on any future plans until we handle this matter,” Attar said. ”Right now we’re in good negotiations with the district attorney, so we’re going to focus on that and we’ll focus on the future later.”

The incident in question saw McGregor, Cowley, and several associates go on a rampage backstage at the Barclays Center following a media day for UFC 223. McGregor was caught on video hurling a dolly at a bus carrying UFC fighters, which resulted in a window shattering. Fighters Michael Chiesa and Ray Borg were injured by glass shards, forcing them to withdraw from their scheduled UFC 223 bouts.

McGregor is facing three counts of assault and one count of criminal mischief, while Cowley is facing one count of assault and one count of criminal mischief. With their next New York court appearance scheduled for July 26, Attar was asked if he expected the legal situation be resolved on that date.

“Should be,” Attar said. ”Hope so.”

On Wednesday, UFC president Dana White told TMZ that he and McGregor are planning to meet on June 18 to discuss what is next for him inside the Octagon, though he admitted that he does not know what McGregor or his team have been working on over on their end.

If Attar is considering potential opponents for McGregor, whether it be UFC lightweight championKhabib Nurmagomedov, a trilogy bout with rival Nate Diaz, or something else entirely, he’s currently staying mum on how far any potential matchups are coming along.

“We’re going to keep all that right now on the backburner and really focus on this matter only and we’ll focus on all that other stuff later,” Attar said.
