AUSSIE BOXING AT ITS BEST

Not since 17th August 2001 has there been a Commonwealth Welterweight Title fought in Sydney featuring two great Australian fighters…with that spectacular abruptly ending, when Julian Holland TKO Shannon Taylor to become the Champion.

On the 22nd October 2017 the current Commonwealth Champion Kris George from Toowoomba, Queensland ventures into enemy territory to defend his title against the current WBC-OPBF Champion ‘Gelignite’ Jack Brubaker.

The co-main event on the stacked Johnny Lewis fight card promises fireworks. Both men are huge welterweights, possessing  knockout power and have never been stopped in their careers to date. The two are champions and have fought tough opposition to rise to the top of the welterweight division.

Kris George has beaten some solid opposition since turning professional in 2012. The fighting fisherman hooked the undefeated Ozan Craddock in 2014, a KO victory against Bowyn Morgan away from home on the Parker vs Haumono undercard and he beat former Olympian Cameron Hammond in November 2016 to claim the vacant Commonwealth Welterweight title.

Since becoming the Commonwealth champion George has been inactive and this will be his first time back in the ring for almost a year.

Jack Brubaker is the former WBC Youth World Champion and current WBC-OPBF Welterweight Champion. Jack won his title knocking out the Chinese national champion Xing Xin Yang in 2015 and has successfully defended his title three times since, most notably a points win over Suyon Takayama (24-1) in Japan in 2016.

Jack been chasing the Commonwealth title for over a year. He was scheduled to contest the
vacant Commonwealth title last year against Cameron Hammond but had to withdraw through injury and has been chasing the opportunity ever since.

Jack Brubaker is coached by Graham Shaw, the man who trained multiple world champion Daniel Geale and has taken Brubaker’s skills to the next level. Brimming with confidence the powerful welterweight is in no doubt that he will be victorious and the honours will remain in Sydney.

This bout is too close to call. Both have been the distance against tough opposition. Both can box and both can bang. Both have solid chins and fear no one. This is truly a 50/50 contest which will firmly establish the winner as a legitimate challenger to Jeff Horn’s World Title. One thing is for sure, boxing wins with this match.
